So...funny story, I (Ryan) uploaded 9 and 10 out of order, so here's 9 in the 10 slot, "Doctor Grimshaw's Sanitorium." Ryan talks about which radio crime fighter should have been in the episode and Richard discusses how much he hates shrinky stories. And some other stuff...listen to find out!

We both hated it, I just don't remember how much.

Before Terminator, before Maximum Overdrive, there was Nightmare. In which we discuss how exactly telephone wires act like tentacles, Ryan talks at length about Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar and The Lion's Eye, Richard talks about St. Elsewhere, both speculate wildly about the careers of two writers we know virtually nothing about based on ten episodes of a sci fi anthology, and occasionally we discuss this episode and whether or not it really happened.

Also, we start to hone our arbitrary scoring system

Episode 8 sees Richard and Ryan gushing about space-themed folk songs, Ryan tries to redeem himself from not liking "Universe," and Richard has a word or two about objectivists.

Richard and Ryan slog through the OTR science fiction anthology X-1's killer doll from outer space story where they discuss odd voice acting choices, the worst plan yet, and the cruelest death so far. Other topics include a question Ryan has about Leave it to Beaver, hating the episode so much that they get a character's age wrong, cynical 18-year-olds, and Richard comes up with perhaps the most disturbing analogy.

Richard pitches a CW show that stretches out a half hour short story for several seasons in a time before we knew The Whispers already did that with a different X-1 episode. Richard and Ryan celebrate a pragmatic protagonist in the face of the spectacular and discuss the ins and outs of moon colonies with all deference to Dan Harmon.

Ted returns as Richard and Ryan encounter the chillest apocolypse survivor ever, wrestle what to do with a hero snake, decide how many survivors are needed to register an elusive victory for humans, and get squirmy about modern sexual politics in old timey stories.

Richard: 8

Ryan: 8

Ted: Three firm, throbbing antennae. Still not sure what it means, but slightly weirded out.

The fourth episode of the X-1 podcast covers Universe, including a not so shocking confession by Ryan, Richard says a bunch of things about Heinlein, decides The Green Hills of Earth was written by Clarke (it was Heinlein), and Richard asks if you're a "Foundation" or a "Dune".

Also, we introduce a 'contest' which is really just a call for you to amuse us. But we'll make sure we pass the amusement along.

I don't remember the ratings, but they were similar even though one sounded critical and the other praise. I really should write these down...

Richard, Ryan, and guest Ted encounter Ray Bradbury's "Mars is Heaven" where we discover otr's biggest bummer character, we try to figure out what a corn fritter is, and how to best use a pile of rotting corpses.

In this episode, Ryan still can't get George Lefferts' name right, the finer points of the publicity game, where to carry your pride and contempt, and some uncomfortable laughter at a different time.

Guest Ted Gehrig returns.

I forgot the ratings. I think we kinda liked it.

The premiere episode of the X-1 discussion podcast. In this episode co-host Ryan misnames the story's author and the magazine x minus one partnered with, the finer points of the sucker punch are revealed, space submarines, and Richard proposes a novel way for a species to get gummy bears and porn.

With guest Ted Gerhig.
